Richard Otterstrom

 

Born and raised on the west side of Los Angeles Rick attended Westchester High School and the University of Southern California where he graduated as a Doctor of Pharmacy. He has a wife and 4 children. After working as a neighborhood Pharmacist in the Venice area for 5 years he joined the family real estate business, Coast Harbor Realty Inc., in 1974 where he specialized in property development. He now specializes in property management, managing mostly residential properties he built in the 1970's and 1980's.

 

Richard has been a member of numerous professional associations both as a Pharmacist and a Realtor. In Pharmacy he has been a member of the American Pharmaceutical Association, the California Pharmaceutical Association, the Santa Monica Bay Area Pharmaceutical Association and a Director of QSAD Centurions, a support group for the USC Pharmacy Program. As a Realtor he has held membership in the National Association of Realtors, the California Association of Realtors, the Venice Marina Del Rey Area Association of Realtors, the Santa Monica Bay Area Association of Realtors, the Los Angeles Association of Realtors, the Beverly Hills/Greater Los Angeles Association of Realtors, the United Multiple Listing Service, the Westside Los Angeles Exchangers and the Los Angeles County Boards of Real-Estate (LACBOR). Richard has been a Director of one or more of these Real Estate Associations every year since 1976.

 

He has also been Legislative/Public Policy Chairman of the local Associations many times. At the Venice Marina Del Rey Board of Realtors he was awarded Realtor of the Year honors in 1976 and was Board President in 1980. From the Beverly Hills/Greater Los Angeles Association of Realtors he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004. At the Los Angeles County Boards Of Real-Estate he was also President in 1988-89. In 1978 he became a Graduate of the Realtors Institute (GRI).

 

Richard was awarded the designation "Honorary Director for Life" by the California Association of Realtors in 1991. He has served as a California Association of Realtors state committee chairman 7 times and a Vice Chairman twice. In 1998 Rick was the California Realtors Political Action Committee (CREPAC) Chairman after 6 years as a Trustee and in 2002 the State Chairman for CAR's Property Management Committee. He is currently Vice Chairman of the California Association of Realtors Issues Mobilization Political Action Committee (IMPAC).

 

Richard is a director of the Apartment Association of Greater Los Angeles (AAGLA), where he is also the Co-Chairman of their Los Angeles Governmental Relations Committee, a member of the State Committee and a member of the Legal Committee.

 

Richard has been a volunteer in many community activities both political and charitable. He has served on a number of Los Angeles City Council and County Board of Supervisors advisory committees as well as State Assembly Councils. He has been a member of and involved with the Chamber of Commerce. He was a long-standing volunteer in the founding and development of the South Bay Free Clinic. He has been a Chairman and Vice-Chairman of various YMCA, Little League Baseball and AYSO soccer programs.
