MEET THE DIRECTORSDon R. Dennis. IIDon R. Dennis, II, is new this year to AAGLA's Board of Directors. He currently serves as a member of the Membership and Los Angeles Government Relations Committees. Don joined AAGLA after he purchased a three-unit apartment building in 2002. When he joined AAGLA, he was primarily interested in using member services, like credit checks. Over time, Don became more involved with housing issues, such as Section 8 housing, and then he began helping out with AAGLA's monthly Saturday Morning Membership Meetings. Born in Los Angeles, Don has been a lifelong resident of the city, except, as he points out, for the four years he spent in Illinois at Northwestern University. Don received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1997 from Northwestern University in Civil Engineering, specializing in transportation engineering. He currently is a transportation engineer with the City of Los Angeles in its long-range planning division, based at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). In this capacity, Don works on transportation issues involving LAX and the region, working in concert with the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA), Caltrans, and other jurisdictions. Don is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the Institute of Transportation Engineers. Don volunteers at his church and is a director with the Sons of Abraham Youth Mentoring Program. The program he is involved with mentors about 30 boys aged 7-17, working to build character, teach responsibility, improve grades, set goals and plan for their careers. As an AAGLA director, Don would like to see AAGLA find new ways for its members to participate in the association. Don says that he likes to exercise at the gym in his free time, but with work, volunteering at his church, working with AAGLA, and studying to take the LSAT so that he can one day attend law school, he says he just doesn't have much free time available for that.
